The journey to establish the Billings Montana Temple began with an announcement on August 30, 1996, igniting anticipation among local Latter-day Saints. Less than two years later, on March 30, 1998, Elder Hugh W. Pinnock performed the groundbreaking and site dedication, officially initiating construction on the 10-acre site located at 3100 Rim Point Drive, Billings, Montana 59106.
The temple’s exterior features Wyoming white dolomite precast concrete, lending it a timeless and elegant appearance. Rising at an elevation of 3,444 feet, the temple’s single central spire is crowned with a striking gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue, a recognizable symbol of Mormon faith.
Grand Open House and Dedication
Following years of construction and preparation, the Billings Montana Temple opened its doors to the public during an open house that ran from October 8th through the 23rd, 1999. Thousands of visitors had the opportunity to tour the temple’s beautiful interiors and learn more about its sacred purpose.
The temple was dedicated by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley on November 20th and 21st, 1999. This momentous occasion marked the beginning of its service as the 66th dedicated temple in operation, serving the spiritual needs of countless members in Montana and surrounding areas.

Spanning 30,800 square feet, the Billings Montana Temple is both grand and functional. It features two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry, providing space for essential ordinances and religious ceremonies.
