Exploring the Boston Massachusetts Temple

Nestled in the serene surroundings of Belmont, Massachusetts, the Boston Massachusetts Temple stands as the 100th dedicated temple in operation, marking a significant milestone in ecclesiastical history. Located at 100 Hinckley Way, this beautifully designed space occupies 8 acres and showcases stunning Olympia white granite on its exterior.

A Milestone Journey

The journey to establish this temple began when it was officially announced on September 30, 1995. Years of meticulous planning culminated in the groundbreaking ceremony held on June 13, 1997, officiated by Apostle Richard G. Scott. Following this, an open house for the public was organized from August 29 to September 23, 2000, offering a first look at this magnificent site prior to its official dedication.

On October 1, 2000, the temple was dedicated by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, marking a momentous occasion for many. Notably, it wasn’t until September 21, 2011 that the iconic gold-leafed statue of the Angel Moroni was placed atop the temple, adding a profound artistic touch to its architecture.

Architectural Details

Spanning 69,900 square feet, the Boston Massachusetts Temple features a splendid design that includes four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a single baptistry. Its height reaches an impressive 139 feet, situated at an elevation of 331 feet. Its unique location atop a wooded granite hillside allows for visibility from the Concord Turnpike, highlighting its presence in the local landscape.
