A Brief History
The official announcement for the Bountiful Utah Temple came on February 2, 1990. This marked the beginning of an exciting journey that culminated in its groundbreaking on May 2, 1992. Dedicated by Prophet Ezra Taft Benson, the event saw a remarkable attendance of 7,500, with an additional 2,500 participating remotely.
The subsequent public open house ran from November 4 to December 17, 1994, attracting an astounding 870,361 people. This success was made possible through the volunteer efforts of 45,000 individuals who contributed their time and energy, ensuring that the event was memorable for all.
The dedication ceremony took place from January 8 to January 14, 1995, presided over by Prophet Howard W. Hunter. During his brief tenure, he dedicated only one other Temple — the Orlando Florida Temple. The dedication of the Bountiful Utah Temple involved a total of 28 sessions attended by 201,655 individuals.
Architectural Details
Covering 9 acres, the Bountiful Utah Temple features a two-story parking garage, with easy access from the west side of the grounds. Its exterior is adorned with Bethel white granite, providing a stunning contrast to the surrounding landscape.
A standout feature of the Temple is the single central spire, crowned by a gold-leafed painted statue of Angel Moroni. This striking element adds to the beauty of the design, making it easily recognizable from various points across the city and along the I-15 freeway.

An interesting event in its history occurred on May 22, 2016, when the Angel Moroni was struck by lightning. Fortunately, the statue was replaced on June 1, 2016.
