Exploring the Burley Idaho Temple

The Burley Idaho Temple stands as the 212th dedicated Temple in operation, serving as a significant spiritual center in Idaho.

Location and Background

Situated at 40 S 150 E, Burley, Idaho 83318, this Temple has deep historical roots. It was announced on April 4, 2021, by the Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 191st General Conference. At the time, Idaho had over 460,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with 1,200 congregations. The early pioneers settled in Idaho in 1855, paving the way for future generations.

Groundbreaking and Dedication

The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on June 4, 2022, led by Brent H. Nielsen. During this ceremony, he expressed his personal connection to the area, stating, “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life and the wonderful abundance that the Lord has blessed all who reside in this beautiful Magic Valley.” He expressed a hope for an “eternal harvest” as the Temple arose from the ground.

The public open house occurred from November 6, 2025, to November 22, 2025, and the Temple was officially dedicated on January 11, 2026, by Dallin H. Oaks.

Architectural Features

Built on 10.12 acres, the Burley Idaho Temple features a stunning exterior finish of Bianco Sarda granite. Standing at a height of 172 feet and sitting at an elevation of 4,188 feet, its single attached end spire showcases a unique design with no gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue. The total area of the Temple is 45,300 square feet.

Interior Design

The interior of the Burley Idaho Temple is characterized by soft gold broadloom carpets in the general areas, with creamy white carpet in the celestial and sealing rooms. Area rugs, including those in the brides’ room, add to the elegant ambiance.

Artistic Touches

Decorative light fixtures combine bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster elements, creating a refined elegance throughout. Crystal chandeliers illuminate key areas like the brides’ room and sealing rooms, enhancing the sacred atmosphere.

Art glass patterns within the Temple highlight the blossoms and leaves of the potato plant, reflecting the local agricultural heritage. The color palette includes shades of blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green, drawing inspiration from the region’s farmland and open skies.

Woodwork and Finishes

Quarter-sawn sapele wood is used extensively throughout the Temple, contributing to the luxurious feel. The interior doors are also crafted from sapele, adorned with bronze hardware featuring a potato blossom design with a rubbed bronze finish.

Historical Significance

The Burley Idaho Temple is the seventh in Idaho, following the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple (1945), Boise Idaho Temple (1984), Rexburg Idaho Temple (2008), Twin Falls Idaho Temple (2008), Meridian Idaho Temple (2017), and Pocatello Idaho Temple (2021). The rendering was publicly released on September 17, 2021, capturing the excitement of its construction.
