On April 4, 2021, during the 191st Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson graciously announced the plans for the Burley Idaho Temple, which will proudly stand as the seventh temple in Idaho, a state that is home to over 460,000 devoted members of the faith.
The momentum for this significant project continued on June 4, 2022, when Elder Brent H. Nielson, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy and a native of Burley, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony. In his address, he underscored the deep personal connection he has to the area, stating, “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life.” His reflections highlight the rich sense of community that this temple will enhance.
The Burley Idaho Temple is set to occupy an expansive 38,600 square feet on a serene 10.1-acre site at 40 South and 150 East. During the groundbreaking ceremony, Elder Nielson expressed a hopeful vision for the future, saying, “As we turn this soil, we pray for an eternal harvest as a house of the Lord, a holy temple, rises out of the ground in this place.” This sentiment captures the shared aspirations of the community regarding the temple’s purpose and significance.
In an effort to engage the community, a public open house is scheduled for November 6 through November 22, 2025. This will provide an invaluable opportunity for both residents and visitors to visit the temple before its official dedication, which is slated for January 11, 2026. The dedicatory session will be broadcast to congregations throughout the temple district, ensuring that all may partake in this momentous occasion.
Situated in Idaho’s picturesque Magic Valley—renowned for its rich agricultural landscape—the temple’s design thoughtfully reflects the beauty of its surroundings. By incorporating motifs that pay homage to local flora, including art glass patterns showcasing potato blossoms, the temple aims to resonate with the area’s natural and cultural heritage.
Rising to 172 feet, the Burley Idaho Temple will be constructed with a robust steel frame clad in Bianco Sarda granite, establishing it as a noteworthy landmark in the community. The property will be elegantly enclosed by a black Ameristar Montage Plus Majestic fence, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and security.
Inside, the temple will embody tranquility and reverence, offering soft gold broadloom carpeting in general areas and creamy white carpeting in celestial and sealing rooms, fostering a sacred atmosphere. The primary stone will be Botticino Classico marble, accentuated with Jerusalem Gold, Verde Guatemala, and distinctive yellow-gold stones sourced from Italy. Delicate light fixtures combining bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster will illuminate key areas, such as the brides’ room and celestial room, contributing to an ambiance of sacred elegance.
The interior will feature rich quarter-sawn sapele wood, along with stained glass windows that beautifully capture potato blossoms, symbolizing a connection to the region’s agricultural roots. The interior doors will be crafted from sapele with bronze hardware, while the exterior doors will feature a tasteful potato blossom design accentuated by a rubbed bronze finish.
