On April 4, 2021, President Russell M. Nelson made a significant announcement during the 191st Annual General Conference: plans for the Burley Idaho Temple have been set in motion. This new temple will proudly stand as the seventh of its kind in Idaho, a state filled with over 460,000 devoted members of the faith.
The cornerstone of this ambitious project was laid on June 4, 2022, during a groundbreaking ceremony presided over by Elder Brent H. Nielson of the Presidency of the Seventy. Elder Nielson, who was born and raised in Burley, beautifully expressed his connection to the area, saying, “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life.” His commitment to the community and the significance of the temple’s location enhance the project’s importance.
Upon completion, the Burley Idaho Temple will encompass an impressive 38,600 square feet on a well-positioned 10.1-acre site located at 40 South and 150 East. Elder Nielson’s dedicatory prayer captured the essence of this development: “As we turn this soil, we pray for an eternal harvest as a house of the Lord, a holy temple, rises out of the ground in this place.” This vision speaks to the enduring legacy of faith the temple will cultivate within the community.
The temple will open its doors for a public open house from November 6 to November 22, 2025, providing an exceptional opportunity for all to experience this sacred space before its dedication on January 11, 2026. The dedicatory session will be broadcast across all congregations in the temple district, ensuring that the significance of this occasion is shared widely.
Set against the backdrop of Idaho’s picturesque Magic Valley, known for its lush potato and sugar beet fields, the temple’s design is a tribute to the region’s natural beauty. With botanical-inspired motifs, including art glass patterns that highlight potato blossoms, the temple will seamlessly integrate its architecture with the surrounding landscape, creating a cohesive and harmonious environment.
The Burley Idaho Temple will rise to a height of 172 feet, constructed with a resilient steel frame and clad in exquisite Bianco Sarda granite. This striking design establishes the temple as a landmark in the area. Additionally, the property is thoughtfully enclosed by a black Ameristar Montage Plus Majestic fence, ensuring both security and aesthetic appeal.
Inside, expect to experience a serene and inviting atmosphere. The main areas of the temple will feature soft gold broadloom carpets, while the celestial and sealing rooms will include pristine creamy white carpeting, enhancing the sacred environment. The interior will showcase Botticino Classico marble, complemented by Jerusalem Gold, Verde Guatemala, and yellow-gold stones sourced from Italy, reflecting elegance and craftsmanship.
Illuminated by decorative light fixtures that blend bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster, spaces such as the brides’ room and celestial room will radiate a warm, welcoming glow. Quarter-sawn sapele wood will be prominently featured throughout the interior, adding a touch of rich, natural beauty. The stained glass windows will artistically display patterns inspired by potato blossoms, further connecting the temple to its agricultural heritage.
The interior doors will feature sapele wood with bronze hardware, while exterior doors will showcase a stunning potato blossom design finished in rubbed bronze, marrying functionality with artistry.
