On April 4, 2021, during the 191st Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson confidently announced the plans to build the Burley Idaho Temple, marking a pivotal moment as this will be the seventh temple in Idaho, a state with over 460,000 devoted members of the faith eagerly anticipating this spiritual landmark.
The momentum continued on June 4, 2022, when Elder Brent H. Nielson of the Presidency of the Seventy, who grew up in Burley, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony. His connection to the area was palpable as he shared, “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life.” This personal touch highlights not only his commitment to the community but also the significance of the temple for local residents.
Once completed, the Burley Idaho Temple will encompass an impressive 38,600 square feet on a prime 10.1-acre site located at 40 South and 150 East. During the dedicatory prayer, Elder Nielson expressed a powerful vision: “As we turn this soil, we pray for an eternal harvest as a house of the Lord, a holy temple, rises out of the ground in this place.” This statement embodies the hope and dedication that the community has invested in this project.
Mark your calendars! The public will have the opportunity to tour the Burley Idaho Temple during a highly anticipated open house from November 6 to November 22, 2025 (excluding Sundays). This event will provide a chance for individuals and families to experience the temple’s beauty and purpose before its dedication on January 11, 2026. This dedicatory session will also be broadcast to all congregations in the temple district so that many can take part in this significant occasion.
The Burley Idaho Temple will be set in the heart of Idaho’s Magic Valley, a region renowned for its rich agricultural landscape, particularly its potato and sugar beet fields. The temple’s design incorporates elements that reflect this natural beauty, featuring motifs inspired by local flora. Art glass patterns will celebrate potato blossoms, while a thoughtfully chosen color palette of blues, golds, ambers, creams, oranges, peaches, and greens will echo the vibrant scenery of the region.
Soaring to 172 feet, the temple is constructed with a sturdy steel frame clad in Bianco Sarda granite, establishing it as a remarkable landmark in the area. Surrounding the property is a black Ameristar Montage Plus Majestic fence, ensuring both security and aesthetic appeal.
Inside, the Burley Idaho Temple is designed to evoke a sense of peace and reverence. Soft gold broadloom carpets will adorn the general areas, while the celestial and sealing rooms will feature creamy white carpeting that enhances the sacred atmosphere. The primary stone, Botticino Classico marble, will be complemented by stunning accents of Jerusalem Gold, Verde Guatemala, and yellow-gold stones sourced from Italy, creating an interior that radiates elegance.
The temple’s decorative light fixtures, crafted from bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster, will illuminate significant areas, including the brides’ room and celestial room, fostering an ambiance of sacred beauty. Quarter-sawn sapele wood will be prominently featured throughout the interior, and the stained glass windows will incorporate potato blossom patterns, linking the temple to the region’s agricultural heritage seamlessly.
The interior doors will be crafted from sapele with bronze hardware, while the exterior doors will showcase a unique potato blossom design finished in rubbed bronze, symbolizing a connection to the local culture.
