Discovering the Burley Idaho Temple

The Burley Idaho Temple stands as a significant addition to the spiritual landscape of Idaho. With its dedication in January 2026, it became the 212th dedicated Temple in operation. Located at 40 S 150 E Burley, Idaho 83318, this remarkable building draws on local heritage and aesthetics.

Announcement and Groundbreaking

The announcement of the Burley Idaho Temple took place on April 4, 2021, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson during the 191st General Conference. At the time of this announcement, Idaho was home to over 460,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spread across 1,200 congregations. The region saw early pioneers settle in 1855, and this Temple serves as a testament to that enduring legacy.

Brent H. Nielsen conducted the groundbreaking and site dedication on June 4, 2022. His words reflected the rich connection to the land: “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life and the wonderful abundance that the Lord has blessed all who reside in this beautiful Magic Valley.” He expressed the hope for an eternal harvest as this holy Temple began its ascent from the ground.

Architectural Features

Exterior Design

The Burley Idaho Temple spans an area of 10.12 acres and features a striking exterior finish of Bianco Sarda granite. The Temple’s height reaches an impressive 172 feet, complemented by a single attached end spire that does not include a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue.

Interior Design

Inside the Temple, one can find four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The total square footage amounts to 45,300, designed to create a serene atmosphere for its many functions.

Art and Aesthetics

The interior is rich with local inspiration, where art glass patterns highlight the blossoms and leaves of the potato plant. This unique choice echoes the vibrant colors of the local farmland, featuring a palette of blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green. Soft gold broadloom carpets grace the general areas, while creamy white carpets appear in the celestial and sealing rooms, creating an inviting ambiance.

Decorative Lighting

Stunning decorative light fixtures combine bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster, casting a warm glow throughout. Crystal chandeliers illuminate key areas, such as the brides’ room, celestial room, and sealing rooms, fostering an atmosphere of elegance.

Significance in Idaho’s Temple History

The Burley Idaho Temple is the seventh Temple built in Idaho, following notable constructions such as the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple in 1945 and the Boise Idaho Temple in 1984. The rendering of the Temple was released to the public on September 17, 2021, offering a glimpse of its artistic vision and connection to Idaho’s landscape.

As local heritage and modern design coalesce within its walls, the Burley Idaho Temple reflects the beauty and spirit of the region, celebrating the agricultural legacy that enriches the Magic Valley. This Temple stands not only as an architectural achievement but also as a representation of faith, connection, and history in Idaho.
