Exciting News: The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is Coming!
Mark your calendars and get ready for an awe-inspiring addition to the Provo skyline! The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is set to become a cherished landmark, defined by its stunning architecture and spiritual significance. Announced on October 3, 2021, by the Prophet Russell M. Nelson, this temple promises to be a beacon of hope and faith for the community.
A Majestic Design and Location
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will grace a 17-acre site, slightly larger than its predecessor. The old temple site, which previously covered just 15 acres, will be enhanced by removing the old road at the front. The temple’s majestic design includes a single attached central spire that rises 81 meters (265 feet 6 inches) into the sky, though this beautiful structure will notably lack the gold-leafed Angel Moroni, which is currently in storage.
Constructed from elegant granite, this temple will stretch across an impressive 163,000 square feet. Imagine the breathtaking views from its elevated location of approximately 4,876 feet (1,486 meters) above sea level! The temple’s exterior will reflect the stunning natural beauty of Utah’s Rock Canyon, ensuring it blends harmoniously with the awe-inspiring landscape.
A Temple for Everyone
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will stand proudly as the sixth temple in the Beehive State, a testament to the growing community of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As of the announcement, there were about 16.8 million members worldwide, with nearly 500 congregations in Utah alone! This temple will undoubtedly serve as a spiritual home for many.
At the moment, it’s important to note that the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple won’t share a parking lot with a meeting house; however, there will be a conveniently located parking area off to the corner across the street.
A Timeline of Anticipation
Construction on this inspiring project kicked off on February 24, 2024, with eager eyes watching as the vision becomes reality. A stunning rendering was released to the public on November 24, 2021, heightening the excitement and anticipation for what this temple will bring to the community.
Expect to see the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple completed by late 2027. It’s a journey that many are looking forward to, full of meaning, connection, and an abundance of spiritual experiences.
