In November 2019, President Russell M. Nelson completed a weeklong ministry in Southeast Asia, which included stops in Jakarta, Indonesia, after visits to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Singapore. During a devotional held at the Ritz-Carlton hotel, he reflected on the 50th anniversary of the Church in Indonesia. President Nelson expressed heartfelt gratitude for the faithfulness of the members and recognized their dedication in pledging 5,000 hours of service, engaging in efforts such as food drives and beautification projects.

As he spoke, he acknowledged the question many had regarding a temple in Indonesia, emphasizing that a sufficient number of members is essential for operating a temple effectively. “It takes a long time to build a temple,” President Nelson stated, highlighting the commitment required from the membership.
