Discovering the Columbus Ohio Temple
Nestled in the heart of Columbus, Ohio, the Columbus Ohio Temple stands as the 60th dedicated Templ of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located at 3870 Gateway Blvd, Columbus, Ohio 43228, this magnificent site has become an integral part of the local landscape since its announcement on April 25, 1998.
The journey to the opening of the Columbus Ohio Temple began with its groundbreaking and site dedication on September 12, 1998, officiated by Elder John K. Carmack. This marked the beginning of a significant chapter, culminating in a public open house from April 29 to May 13, 2023, which allowed many to engage with this remarkable space before its rededication on June 4, 2023, led by Apostle M. Russell Ballard.
Spanning 5 acres, the design of the Columbus Ohio Temple features stunning architectural elements that capture attention. Its exterior is adorned with exquisite white Spanish marble and granite, sourced from Spain, creating a striking contrast against its lush surroundings. A notable highlight is the single attached spire topped with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, a revered figure in the faith, which underwent reinstallation on December 9, 2021—now facing Southwest, welcoming all who approach.
Inside, the Columbus Ohio Temple encompasses 11,745 square feet of thoughtfully designed space. It boasts two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, each crafted to facilitate various sacred practices. Warmed by the tones of beige and gold in the interior stone, the atmosphere encourages reflection and peace.
The stained glass windows are particularly noteworthy; they depict the delicate pink magnolia blossoms, mirroring the flowers that flourish around the grounds. Landscaping features a harmonious blend of flora, including boxwood, juniper, magnolias, Red Sunset maples, and Eastern redbuds, enhancing the natural beauty of the site.
Situated 150 miles south of Kirtland, Ohio, this Templ is the second to be established in the state, enhancing the connectivity of members across the region. Notably, there is a meetinghouse located in the same parking lot, creating a cohesive environment for various activities and events.
Standing tall at 77 feet and elevated to 858 feet above sea level, the Columbus Ohio Temple is a testament to the dedication and passion behind its creation. As one of the most recent additions to the heritage of the Church, it continues to inspire and uplift all who are drawn to its beauty and purpose, serving as a cherished element in the vibrant tapestry of life in Columbus.
