The journey of the Columbus Ohio Temple began with its announcement on April 25, 1998, signaling the start of a significant chapter for the area. Groundbreaking and site Dedication took place on September 12, 1998, under the guidance of Elder John K. Carmack. Following years of careful planning and construction, an open house was held from April 29 to May 13, 2023, giving an opportunity for many to experience the beauty and purpose of this incredible T emple firsthand.
The official rededication occurred on June 4, 2023, led by Apostle M. Russell Ballard. This moment marked the culmination of years of effort and dedication, signifying not only a physical space but also a spiritual milestone for the faith community.
Architectural Highlights
Spanning 11,745 square feet and soaring to a height of 77 feet, the Columbus Ohio Temple is built on a five-acre site, making it a prominent feature in the landscape. Its exterior finish, composed of exquisite white Spanish marble and granite from Spain, gives the Temple a striking and elegant appearance.
One of the standout elements is the single attached spire, adorned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, which was reinstalled on December 9, 2021. This statue, which now faces southwest toward the entrance, holds a special place in the design, adding to the Temple’s spiritual significance.
Inside, the Temple features two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, thoughtfully designed to enhance the experience of those who enter. The interior showcases beautiful beige and gold stone, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere.
