A Journey Through Time
The journey began with an announcement on October 2, 2004, signaling the intention to construct this impressive building. Fast forward to August 5, 2006, when groundbreaking and site dedication took place, led by Gordon B. Hinckley, who remarked, “It is a great tribute to our people. They are so faithful in temple attendance, and it is for this reason that we construct this beautiful house of the Lord.”
An exciting milestone was reached when the public open house ran from January 15 to March 14, 2009, attracting an astounding 684,721 individuals eager to explore its interiors.
Architectural Marvel
The Draper Utah Temple features captivating architectural elements with a striking central spire topped by a gold leafed Angel Moroni, which was installed on July 8, 2008. Covering 58,300 square feet, the Temple is constructed on 12 acres of land and has a height of 166 feet, standing proudly at an elevation of 5,136 feet.
The exterior showcases white granite from China and limestone sourced from France. Inside, visitors can find intricate details featuring Makore wood from Africa, adding a touch of elegance to the overall design.
Intriguing Features
The interior of the Draper Utah Temple boasts 221 exterior windows, 50 interior windows, and a remarkable 432 door panels, totaling 35,420 hand-cut pieces of glass. The window designs incorporate the Log Cabin quilt pattern—an homage to the early pioneers.
With four instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and one baptistry, the Draper Utah Temple facilitates a variety of sacred ceremonies. Its largest sealing room can accommodate up to 80 patrons. The ordinance rooms are adorned with hand-painted panoramas that depict mountain scenes and offer breathtaking views of Draper’s Corner Canyon and the Salt Lake Valley.
Natural light floods the baptistry located on the downhill western side, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows that create a serene atmosphere.

Dedicated from March 20 to 22, 2009, by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, the Draper Utah Temple has become the twelfth built in Utah and the third in the Salt Lake Valley. Each element, from its design to its purpose, reflects a deep-seated commitment to faith and reverence.
