The Montpelier Idaho Temple: A New Addition to Idaho’s Spiritual Landscape brought to you by LDS Temple News

Located at Washington St, Montpelier, ID 83254, the Montpelier Idaho Temple is set to be an important addition to Idaho’s spiritual fabric. Announced on April 3, 2022, by the Prophet Russell M. Nelson, this Temple marks a significant moment for the area.

On June 17, 2023, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place, officiated by Elder Ryan K. Olsen. During the ceremony, Elder Olsen expressed hopes for those present, stating: “We ask a special blessing on those who have gathered this day that they and their families will be given understanding and peace with confidence in Thy plan.”

The Montpelier Idaho Temple stands on a 2.6-acre lot and encompasses 27,000 square feet. One of its key architectural features is a single attached central tower, notable for not featuring a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue. Inside, the Temple includes two instructional rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry.

Situated at an elevation of 5,969 feet, the Temple’s design blends harmoniously with the stunning natural scenery surrounding Montpelier. A rendering of the building was released to the public on April 24, 2023, offering a visual glimpse into what is soon to be a cherished addition to the Idaho landscape.

Historic connections run deep in the state; early pioneers settled in Idaho in 1855, and several Church presidents hail from this region, including Presidents Harold B. Lee, Ezra Taft Benson, and Howard W. Hunter. The Montpelier Idaho Temple will be the eighth Temple in Idaho, joining others such as the Twin Falls Idaho Temple, Boise Idaho Temple, Burley Idaho Temple, Idaho Falls Idaho Temple, Meridian Idaho Temple, Pocatello Idaho Temple, Rexburg Idaho Temple, and Teton River Idaho Temple.

The public open house is scheduled for September 10th through 26th, 2026, providing an opportunity for individuals to explore the Temple’s surroundings and learn more about its purpose. The dedication ceremony will take place on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with a rebroadcast at 2:00 PM.
