Occupying a 1.6-acre site, this Temple stands as the first of its kind in North Dakota. Its design features a single attached central spire adorned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni that gracefully reaches towards the sky. The exterior is complemented by a beautiful granite veneer from Québec, adding to its elegance and charm.
Measuring 10,700 square feet, the Bismarck North Dakota Temple is classified as a smaller Temple, yet it carries a profound impact on the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Inside, the Bismarck Temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a single baptistry, each space thoughtfully designed to serve the needs of its visitors.
On September 19, 1999, the Bismarck North Dakota Temple was dedicated by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. Interestingly, this was the only state he had never visited, despite having traveled extensively around the globe. This event symbolized not only a significant milestone for the region but also for the members who had previously faced extensive travel times to reach the nearest Temples. For those residing in Grand Forks, a trip to Chicago took about 16 hours, while members from Minot drove 14 hours to reach Cardston, Alberta, and those in Rapid City, South Dakota, traveled 7 hours to Denver. The establishment of the Temple in Bismarck marked a true blessing for many who longed for a space closer to home.
