Nestled in the serene landscape of Draper, Utah, at 14065 Canyon Vista Ln, the Draper Utah Temple stands as a stunning representation of architectural beauty and spiritual significance. This captivating building was announced on October 2, 2004, laying the groundwork for a remarkable journey that culminated in its formal dedication.
On August 5, 2006, the prominent leader Gordon B. Hinckley conducted the groundbreaking and site dedication, expressing that the construction of this remarkable space was a “great tribute to our people.” He highlighted the unwavering commitment to attending and participating in temple activities, reinforcing the significance this space holds for many.
The public open house, running from January 15 to March 14 in 2009, saw an astonishing 684,721 individuals tour the hall, showcasing the immense interest and admiration for this beautiful house.
One of the most memorable moments in the construction of the Draper Utah Temple occurred on July 8, 2008, when the striking gold leafed Angel Moroni was installed atop the single attached central spire. This addition beautifully complements the building’s architectural style, which is characterized by its graceful lines and exquisite detail.
The dedication ceremonies took place from March 20 to 22 in 2009, led by Prophet Thomas S. Monson. Such occasions highlighted the importance of the Draper Utah Temple as a space dedicated to faith and personal growth.
Covering an impressive 58,300 square feet on 12 acres, the Draper Utah Temple is a testament to thoughtful design and planning. The white granite exterior, sourced from China, complements the exquisite limestone that comes from France. Inside, the carefully chosen Makore wood from Africa enhances the warmth and beauty of the interiors.
Unique design features, including 221 exterior windows and 50 interior windows, allow natural light to pour into the building, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The windows are adorned with the Log Cabin quilt pattern, a nod to the early pioneers who shaped the region.
The four instruction rooms, five sealing rooms, and a baptistry add to the multifunctional nature of the space. The largest sealing room can comfortably accommodate up to 80 patrons, while the ordinance rooms boast hand-painted panoramas capturing the picturesque mountain scenes and the impressive view of Draper’s Corner Canyon and Salt Lake Valley.
On the western side, the baptistry is strategically placed to benefit from natural light through its floor-to-ceiling windows, enhancing its serene environment.
The Draper Utah Temple rises to a height of 166 feet and is situated at an elevation of 5,136 feet, offering remarkable views of the surrounding landscape. As the twelfth temple built in Utah and the third in the Salt Lake Valley, its importance in the region can not be overstated. Notably, it shares the same lot as a meeting house, which further emphasizes its integral role in the area.
