Ephraim Utah Temple: A New Sacred Space in Central Utah

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has unveiled exciting details about the Ephraim Utah Temple, marking a significant expansion of the Church’s presence in central Utah. With an official announcement made on May 1, 2021, this new Temple represents a considerable investment in the region’s spiritual infrastructure.

Location and Basic Information

The Ephraim Utah Temple will be situated at 400 East 200 North, Ephraim, Utah 84627, positioning it at a scenic elevation of 5,567 feet in the heart of Sanpete County. The Temple’s impressive footprint spans 39,000 square feet, making it a substantial addition to the area’s architectural landscape.

From Announcement to Construction

The journey toward completing this Temple began with the May 2021 announcement, followed by a pivotal groundbreaking and site dedication ceremony on August 27, 2022. The Prophet Russell M. Nelson himself presided over this significant event, setting the spiritual tone for the Temple’s development.

The architectural rendering was released to the public on March 4, 2022, giving Church members and residents their first glimpse of what this sacred space would look like upon completion.

Inside the Temple

The Ephraim Utah Temple has been designed with specific spiritual purposes in mind. The Temple will feature:

  • Four instruction rooms, each equipped with endowment spaces capable of seating 30 people
  • Three sealing rooms for eternal marriage ceremonies
  • One baptistry for vicarious baptism ordinances

This thoughtful design reflects the Temple’s role in facilitating essential Church ordinances for both living members and those deceased.

Opening Celebrations and Public Access

The highly anticipated opening will take place across two days in late summer 2026. A media day is scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2026, allowing news outlets and photographers to document this momentous occasion. This will be immediately followed by private tours for invited guests on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

What This Means for the Region

The Ephraim Utah Temple represents a meaningful development for the central Utah region, serving members across Sanpete County and surrounding areas. Its completion will provide convenient access to Temple ordinances for thousands of Latter-day Saints in the region, eliminating the need for extended travel to other facilities.

As construction progresses, members and residents alike can anticipate the completion of this important addition to the Church’s network of Temples throughout the world.
