The Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple is not just another building; it’s a spectacular blend of architectural wonder and vibrant culture that tells a captivating story! Imagine this: it all started back on October 3, 2009, when the temple was first announced. Fast forward to July 18, 2011, when the excitement hit an all-time high with a groundbreaking ceremony led by Walter F. Gonzalez. The anticipation built up until the big reveal from March 19 to April 19, 2014, when the temple opened its doors to the public, leading up to its grand dedication by Dieter F. Uchtdorf on May 4, 2014.
Nestled on a scenic 16.82-acre site in Davie, this stunning temple flaunts an eye-catching precast concrete exterior topped with a majestic spire that proudly displays a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. Standing tall at 99 feet, it’s impossible to miss! Inside, you’ll find two spacious instruction rooms, three lovely sealing rooms, and a beautifully designed baptistry—all wrapped up in 30,500 square feet of divine space. The artistic touches are a nod to the local charm, featuring motifs inspired by sun-kissed landscapes and swaying palm trees, all beautifully intertwined with classic Neoclassical elements like elegant arches and columns.
But here’s a fun twist—did you know that the land where this temple now shines was once earmarked for a middle school back in 2003? Thanks to some shifting needs and a little creativity, the Broward County School Board decided to step back from that plan by 2009. Cue the Church swooping in to claim the site! With a Notice of Termination and payment of educational impact fees, the vision for the temple began to take shape. An amendment changed the zoning to make way for this cultural gem while still keeping the door open for future residential development.
Strategically located just north of Griffin Road and Interstate 75, with the scenic Robbins – Vista View Trail bordering along Shotgun Road, the temple is more than just a spiritual sanctuary. It’s a tranquil escape for the whole community! With its extraordinary design and rich history, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple truly stands as a shining centerpiece in the beautiful spiritual landscape of South Florida. So whether you’re exploring its stunning architecture or soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, there’s a little bit of magic waiting for everyone!
