The groundbreaking ceremony for the Fort Worth Texas Temple took place on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Elder Jose L. Alonso, who serves as a General Authority Seventy and First Counselor in the North America Southwest Area Presidency, presided over the event. In his dedicatory prayer, Elder Alonso expressed deep gratitude, stating, “Our hearts are full of appreciation for the treasured gift of Thy Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. His divine mission offers hope and purpose. Through His atonement, we find comfort during difficult times, and through His grace, we are empowered with strength and encouragement to serve our neighbors.” His words highlighted the spiritual significance of the temple’s construction.
The Fort Worth Texas Temple is designed to be a single-story structure that will cover approximately 30,000 square feet. It is situated on a 9.37-acre site located just north of SW Hulen Street and Greenridge Drive in Burleson, Texas. The architectural design features a beautiful central spire, contributing to the temple’s graceful and inviting appearance.
The announcement of the temple’s construction was made by President Russell M. Nelson during the October 2021 General Conference. This temple will be the sixth in Texas, which serves a large Latter-day Saint community of over 360,000 members. Fort Worth is positioned northwest of Dallas in north central Texas and will soon welcome this new house of worship.
For comparison, the nearby Fort Collins Colorado Temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, marking a standard design for temples in the region. The Fort Worth Texas Temple, situated at an elevation of 768 feet, is anticipated to provide a similar range of facilities, catering to the diverse needs of its congregation and fostering community worship.
As the temple progresses, it represents a significant milestone for the local community, promising to enhance spiritual life and serve as a gathering place for worship and support.
