Exciting Update: The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple
Are you ready for a new spiritual landmark in Provo, Utah? The highly anticipated Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is on the horizon, and it’s shaping up to be a magnificent addition to our community! Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021, this temple represents not only a significant religious edifice but a gathering place for Latter-day Saints.
A Majestic Vision
Slated to rise majestically on a 17-acre site on Temple Hill Drive, this stunning structure will encompass approximately 163,000 square feet—a remarkable increase from its predecessor, which occupied just 15 acres. With construction commencing on February 24, 2024, we can already envision the breathtaking beauty this temple will bring.
Architectural Splendor
One of the standout features of the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will be its striking granite exterior, ensuring that it blends harmoniously with the picturesque landscape of Rock Canyon. Unlike its predecessor, this temple will feature a single attached central spire that reaches an impressive 265 feet 6 inches high. Take note, however—there will be no gold-leafed Angel Moroni atop the spire, as the original statue is currently in storage, waiting for its new home.
Community and Accessibility
While the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple will not share its parking lot with a meeting house, there is convenient parking available across the street, ensuring easy access for all who visit. This temple will also mark the sixth temple in the beautiful state of Utah, a testament to the growing community of approximately 16.8 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A Home for Worship and Reflection
With roughly 500 congregations in Utah alone, the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple plays a significant role in strengthening our faith and providing a serene space for worship and reflection. Its elevation of approximately 4,876 feet above sea level offers a stunning backdrop, allowing visitors to connect with both the heavens and the breathtaking natural surroundings.
What to Expect
Mark your calendars for late 2027 when the Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple is expected to open its doors to the public. Its essence promises to be a blend of tradition and modernity, welcoming visitors with open arms to enjoy its sacred offerings.
A New Era for Provo
The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple, formerly known as the Provo Utah Temple until its renaming on February 20, 2024, will undoubtedly serve as an emblematic structure for decades to come, not only spiritually enriching the lives of its visitors but also enhancing the overall beauty of the Provo area.
Let’s look forward to this milestone in our community that is sure to bless the lives of many for generations. Stay tuned for more updates as construction progresses and we move closer to this exciting new chapter in Provo’s story!
