Ground Broken for Lone Mountain Nevada Temple
The Lone Mountain Nevada Temple was announced on October 2, 2022, by Prophet Russell M. Nelson. At that time, nearly 6% of Nevada’s population were members of the Church, totaling around 180,000 individuals spread across more than 360 congregations. This addition marks the fourth Temple in the state, following the Las Vegas Nevada Temple, which was dedicated in 1989, and the Reno Nevada Temple, dedicated in 2000. As construction for the Elko Nevada Temple began just before this announcement and was ongoing, the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple further signifies the growth of Latter-day Saints in the area.
Groundbreaking and Construction
The groundbreaking and site dedication occurred on September 25, 2025, with Elder Michael A. Dunn, First Counselor in the United States Southwest Area Presidency, presiding over the event. During the site dedicatory prayer, Elder Dunn expressed a hopeful outlook, stating, “Help us, as a covenant people, to continue to stand on holy ground, to reach toward heaven even as heaven reaches down to us through this magnificent house of the Lord.”
Plans for the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple feature a three-story design, constructed on 19.8 acres near Lone Mountain, a notable geographic feature in Northwest Las Vegas.

The architectural characteristics of the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple include:

Its exterior finish complements the high desert landscape, while the building features a single attached end spire, distinctively without a Gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue. Inside, there are four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and one baptistry.
