Great news for everyone in Zimbabwe! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple was announced on April 3, 2016, during the 186th Annual General Conference by the beloved Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This was just the start of an exciting journey toward creating a special place of Temple Work and community.
Fast forward to December 12, 2020, when Elder Edward Dube, a native son of Zimbabwe and 1st Counselor in the African South Area Presidency, led the groundbreaking ceremony. His heartfelt words, “As we watch the rising of this building from the ground up, may we also turn our hearts upward to Thee and Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ,” truly captured the atmosphere of hope and dedication. It was also wonderful to have President Mnangagwa present, patrons praised the Church’s contributions to national development and the well-being of the community. At the groundbreaking ceremony was President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, was also in attendance. President Mnangagwa praised the Church in his remarks, saying, “The contribution of the Church to national development and social well being of the citizenry cannot be overemphasized.”
Mark your calendars! The Public Open House for the Harare Zimbabwe Temple is scheduled from January 22 to February 7, 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to come and see this beautiful new addition to our community! The temple will be located at 65 Enterprise Road in Highlands, Harare. Covering 6.7 acres, this stunning building will stand at a height of 103 feet 4 inches and features a charming architectural design with a single attached end spire, though it doesn’t have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. Inside, you’ll find two Instruction Rooms, two Sealing Rooms, and one baptistry—all within a spacious 17,247 square feet.
The artistic rendering of the temple was unveiled on October 1, 2020, and its construction has been a blessing, especially since it saves our local members the long journey of 13 hours to the Johannesburg South African Temple. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will be the first in Zimbabwe and the eighth in Africa, making it a significant milestone for our community, which already boasts a vibrant membership of 26,000 members, six stakes, and two districts.
An unforgettable moment happened on April 17, 2018, when Prophet Russell M. Nelson visited the temple site during his tour. His presence brought even more excitement about this special place! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple isn’t just a building; it’s a welcoming space for all the Saints, offering hope and a chance to come together as a community. We can’t wait to see this amazing Temple to rise, and we’re so excited for what it will bring to our beloved Zimbabwe!
