Harare Zimbabwe Temple Rendering

Hey there! Exciting news for everyone in Zimbabwe! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple was announced on April 3, 2016, during the 186th Annual General Conference by our beloved Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This marked the start of a wonderful journey toward a special place for Temple Work and community.

On December 12, 2020, we celebrated a huge milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony led by Elder Edward Dube, a proud local son and 1st Counselor in the African South Area Presidency. His heartfelt words, “As we watch the rising of this building from the ground up, may we also turn our hearts upward to Thee and Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ,” really captured the spirit and hope that filled the day. We were also joined by President Mnangagwa, patrons shared his support for the Church and its positive impact on our national development and the well-being of our people. At the groundbreaking ceremony was President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, was also in attendance. President Mnangagwa praised the Church in his remarks, saying, “The contribution of the Church to national development and social well being of the citizenry cannot be overemphasized.”

Circle your calendars! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will have its Public Open House from January 22 to February 7, 2026. This is such a great opportunity for everyone to come and see this beautiful addition to our community! You can find it at 65 Enterprise Road, Highlands, Harare. The temple will be a stunning 6.7 acres and stands proudly at 103 feet 4 inches tall, featuring a lovely single attached end spire (though it won’t have a gold-leafed Angel Moroni this time). Inside, you will find two Instruction Rooms, two Sealing Rooms, and one baptistry, all adding up to a spacious 17,247 square feet!

We got a sneak peek of the temple design when the artistic rendering was released on October 1, 2020. For many members, this temple is a blessing, especially since it means they won’t have to travel 13 hours to the Johannesburg South African Temple anymore! The Harare Zimbabwe Temple is the first in our beautiful Zimbabwe and the eighth temple in Africa — what an amazing milestone for the local community, which boasts around 26,000 members, six stakes, and two districts!

It was a special day when Prophet Russell M. Nelson visited the temple site on April 17, 2018, during his tour. His visit filled everyone with excitement for this incredible Temple. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple is more than just a building; it’s a place of hope, connection, and spiritual growth for all of us.
