Announced on October 2, 2010, this sacred project has become a beacon of hope and devotion since its groundbreaking ceremony on August 17, 2013, presided over by President Thomas S. Monson. President Monson captured the spirit of the day perfectly, proclaiming, “Each [temple] stands as a beacon to the world, an expression of our testimony that God our Eternal Father lives…”
Fast forward to the unforgettable public open house from September 30 to October 20, 2016. For three weeks, visitors were welcomed to experience the beauty and spirit of the Hartford Connecticut Temple. Its dedication on November 20, 2016, led by President Henry B. Eyring, was a deeply moving occasion. His dedicatory prayer resonated with aspirations for the temple to be a sanctuary of sanctification and holiness, extending its influence into the communities surrounding it.
Located on an impressive 11.3-acre site at the corner of Farmington Avenue and Melrose Drive—historically significant as the birthplace of Wilford Woodruff, the fourth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—the temple’s striking design captures attention. Clad in white granite, the temple features majestic Ionic columns and an elegant steeple that reaches 115 feet into the sky. Its design is inspired by the historic First Church of Christ Congregational, completed in 1772, showcasing a blend of modern faith and timeless architecture.
As you stroll through the meticulously landscaped grounds, you’ll notice vibrant foliage and winding walkways framed by a charming stone fence reminiscent of New England’s quaint heritage. At the temple’s peak, a gold-leafed angel Moroni statue catches the light, serving as a radiant symbol of hope for all who pass by.
Inside, the temple boasts two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry within its 32,246 square feet. Towering at 117 feet that rise from an elevation of 179 feet, it presents an inviting and peaceful space for worship and reflection.

Hinckley first announced plans for this regional temple.
