Situated at 3901 SW 154th Ave, Davie, Florida 33331, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple was publicly announced on October 3, 2009 by Prophet Thomas S. Monson during General Conference. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on June 18, 2011, led by Walter F. González. Following the intense construction phase, a public open house was held from March 29 to April 19, 2014, drawing significant interest. The Temple was then dedicated on May 4, 2014 by Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf, who remarked, “This is a great moment in the history of Florida, and I am grateful to be part of it.”
Architectural Features and Design
Designed on 16.82 acres, the Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple spans 30,500 square feet and is built at a height of 99 feet 10 inches. It features a single attached end spire topped with a golden Angel Moroni statue. This Temple marks the first in the city of Davie and is the second built in the state of Florida. Notably, it was recognized as the best project in the Cultural/Worship category by ENR Southeast on October 24, 2012.
Interior Highlights
The Temple comprises two instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The interior design showcases en elegant atmosphere highlighted by:
- Murals: Original, hand-painted murals by artist Brad Aldridge in the first-stage endowment room reflect South Florida’s lush tropical scenery.
- Lighting: Schonbek chandeliers enhance the building’s Neoclassical architectural style and bright decor.
- Doors: Crafted from Red Grandis wood sourced from Ecuador, with bronze hardware adorning them.
Exterior Design
The exterior finish features architectural precast concrete, complemented by beautiful art glass patterns depicting long grass leaf motifs. The color palette of blue, green, and earth tones conveys the natural beauty of Florida’s wetlands and coastline.

The Fort Lauderdale Florida Temple was the southernmost temple in the contiguous 48 states of the United States before the dedication of the McAllen Texas Temple in 2023. Notably, it was the first Florida Temple dedicated in the 21st century, coinciding with the openings of the Gilbert Arizona Temple and the Phoenix Arizona Temple in the same year.
