We are pleased to share the significant development of the Harare Zimbabwe Temple, which was announced on April 3, 2016, during the 186th Annual General Conference by Prophet Thomas S. Monson. This announcement marked the beginning of a meaningful journey toward establishing a vital place of Temple Work and community engagement.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on December 12, 2020, under the leadership of Elder Edward Dube, a respected native of Zimbabwe and 1st Counselor in the African South Area Presidency. His profound statement, “As we watch the rising of this building from the ground up, may we also turn our hearts upward to Thee and Thy Son, our Savior Jesus Christ,” profoundly resonated with all present. The attendance of President Mnangagwa underscored the significance of this Temple as he highlighted the Church’s valuable contributions to national development and the well-being of the Zimbabwean populace. At the groundbreaking ceremony was President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, was also in attendance. President Mnangagwa praised the Church in his remarks, saying, “The contribution of the Church to national development and social well being of the citizenry cannot be overemphasized.”

We invite the community to participate in the Public Open House for the Harare Zimbabwe Temple, scheduled from January 22 to February 7, 2026. This occasion provides an excellent opportunity for individuals and families to explore this noteworthy addition to the community. The temple, located at 65 Enterprise Road, Highlands, Harare, spans an impressive 6.7 acres and reaches a height of 103 feet 4 inches, featuring a single attached end spire without a gold-leafed Angel Moroni. It includes two Instruction Rooms, two Sealing Rooms, and one baptistry, totaling a spacious 17,247 square feet.

The architectural rendering of the temple was released on October 1, 2020, and has generated considerable anticipation within the community. The establishment of this temple represents a significant blessing for local members, patrons previously faced a 13-hour journey to reach the Johannesburg South African Temple. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple stands as the first temple in Zimbabwe and the eighth in Africa, marking a notable advancement for the Church in the region. The local membership currently comprises approximately 26,000 individuals organized into six stakes and two districts.

Additionally, the visit of Prophet Russell M. Nelson to the temple site on April 17, 2018, during his tour, was a notable milestone that further underscored the Temple’s importance. The Harare Zimbabwe Temple is envisioned as more than just a physical Temple; it is a symbol of hope, faith, and community for the people of Zimbabwe. We look forward to witnessing the Open House of this significant Temple and its positive impact on the lives of many.
