The story of the Las Vegas Nevada Temple began with its announcement on April 7, 1984, by the Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. The groundbreaking and site dedication took place on November 30, 1985, officiated by Apostle Thomas S. Monson. Following this, a public open house ran from November 16 to December 9, 1989, attracting a remarkable 297,480 attendees.
The grand dedication occurred over a three-day event from December 16 to 18, 1989, again led by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, who remarked on this occasion, “This house is a house of learning, of instruction, of inspiration, and a house of peace.”
Architectural Elegance
Covering 10.3 acres, the Las Vegas Nevada Temple features striking exterior finishes of white precast stone and a copper roof accentuated with detailing. The six attached spires soar to a height of 137 feet, adorned with an angel Moroni statue that gazes eastward, symbolically heralding the Second Coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ. The exterior art glass showcases geometric, Art Deco-inspired patterns, harmonizing beautifully with the surrounding desert landscape.
Interior Design and Features
The Temple spans 80,350 square feet over three levels. Inside, it offers four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The interior boasts exquisite features, including light fixtures crafted by Preciosa, known for their custom brass and frosted-glass chandeliers. The highlight is the Celestial Room, where two grand chandeliers hold thousands of pieces of cut crystal, illuminating the space as natural light pours through floor-to-ceiling windows, creating mesmerizing rainbows on the walls.

Over 6,000 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where Church leaders ceremoniously turned the earth earlier that day.
