Exciting News: The Layton Utah Temple is Coming!

Hello, Layton community! We have some wonderful news to share that’s sure to brighten your day! During the recent Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced the construction of the Layton Utah Temple! This announcement, made on April 1, 2018, has sparked excitement and joy all around.

Just imagine seeing the Layton Utah Temple with its beautiful two spires and the gleaming gold-leafed angel Moroni statue perched on top! This stunning temple will be a spacious 93,539 square feet, featuring four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a lovely baptistry—a perfect setting for cherished moments. Standing tall at 215 feet and sitting at an elevation of 4,468 feet, the temple will be a prominent and welcoming landmark right at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane, designed to be a haven for our community.

This temple holds a special place in our hearts as the twenty-second temple built in Utah, and the second in Davis County, following the beloved Bountiful Utah Temple. Who can forget the excitement when the official exterior rendering of the temple was released on October 8, 2019? It gave us all a glimpse of the beautiful building that was to come!

At the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, shared his gratitude, saying, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area and around the world.” His words truly resonated with all of us, reminding us of the shared faith and hopes we have for this new temple. Elder Randy D. Funk offered a heartfelt dedicatory prayer, asking that the temple be “a beacon of light for the entire community.”

Mark your calendars for a special day you won’t want to miss! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication on Sunday, June 16, 2024. There will be two broadcast sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. so everyone in the temple district can join in this joyous event! And before the dedication, we’ll have a public open house, welcoming visitors from April 19 through June 1, 2024 (excluding Sundays), to come and explore this beautiful temple. Plus, on April 15, there will be a special media day for invited guests to get a sneak peek!

The Layton Utah Temple is set to be a beautiful addition to our community—offering peace, hope, and joy to everyone who enters. We can’t wait to celebrate this wonderful blessing together!
