Welcome to the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple, a magnificent sanctuary nestled at 11022 S 4000 W in South Jordan, Utah, 84009. This architectural masterpiece tells a story that began with its announcement on October 1, 2005, ushering in a period of hope and anticipation.
The journey took a significant step forward on December 16, 2006, when the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley performed the groundbreaking ceremony, filling the air with excitement and spiritual energy as the community gathered to witness this sacred beginning.
After much anticipation, the temple opened its doors to the public from June 1 to August 1, 2009, inviting guests to experience its beauty and peace. The official dedication, held from August 21 to 23, 2009, was led by Prophet Thomas S. Monson, marking a momentous occasion filled with reverence and joy.
Perched gracefully on 11 picturesque acres, the temple features an exterior adorned in Uinta Gold Granite from China, exuding elegance and strength. The surrounding pavers crafted from Wyndam Grey Granite enhance the beauty of this sacred space.
One of its most striking features is the single attached end spire, crowned with a radiant gold leafed angel Moroni statue, symbolizing faith and protection. The temple stretches across 60,000 square feet and reaches a height of 183 feet, commanding admiration and respect. It is situated at an elevation of 4,783 feet, offering breathtaking views that inspire awe. The temple is the thirteenth built in Utah and the fourth in the Salt Lake Valley, standing proudly alongside the South Jordan Utah Temple.
In a remarkable turn of events, on June 13, 2009, lightning struck the angel Moroni statue during the public open house, leaving marks of resilience on its trumpet, arm, and face. A new statue was installed on August 11, just ten days before the dedicatory services, bringing a renewed sense of majesty.
Upon entering, guests are enveloped by a serene atmosphere enriched with light limestone from Morocco and deeper hues of limestone from Egypt. The exquisite woodwork, featuring Rift-cut White Oak from Indiana and Kentucky, adds warmth and beauty to every room.
The dazzling chandeliers, especially the grand one in the Celestial Room, sparkle with 19,447 individual Swarovski crystals, creating an ethereal ambiance. The lovingly crafted bronzed door handrails, made in the USA, enhance the welcoming environment. The murals painted by dedicated church service missionaries resonate with the spirit of the temple, telling unique stories of faith and devotion.
In essence, the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple is a place of peace, inspiration, and community. Whether seeking quiet reflection or simply admiring its beauty, this temple promises to leave an indelible mark on your heart. Explore this sacred space and embrace the inspiration it offers!
