Nestled in the scenic landscape of Payson, Utah, the Payson Utah Temple stands proudly as the 146th dedicated temple in operation. Its journey began on January 25, 2010, when the beloved Prophet Thomas S. Monson announced its construction, sharing a profound message about the role of temples: “Temples answer those soul-searching questions of the purpose of life, of why we are here and where we are going. They are sanctuaries from the storms of life and bless the lives of members of the Church who Temple within their sacred walls.”
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on October 8, 2011, led by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks, amidst a crowd of over seven thousand eager attendees. Despite a light drizzle and chilly temperatures hovering around 32 degrees, the atmosphere was charged with excitement. Oaks emphasized the temple’s significant location, remarking, “Standing adjacent to I-15, the major north-south artery in Utah, the Payson Utah Temple will be a dominant and visible influence on the millions who pass by here by day and by night.”
Fast forward to April 24 through May 23, 2015, when the community welcomed a remarkable 475,542 visitors during the public open house, each one eager to explore the stunning architectural details of this sacred space. The Payson Utah Temple, with its elegant cream precast concrete panels and a striking single attached central spire topped with a gold-leafed angel Moroni statue, spans an impressive 96,630 square feet across 10.63 acres.
Inside, the temple houses three instruction rooms, seven sealing rooms, and a beautiful baptistry, providing ample space for Temple pers to connect spiritually. Towering at 208 feet and situated at an elevation of 4,691 feet, it offers stunning views that perfectly complement its spiritual significance.
On June 7, 2015, the temple was officially dedicated by Apostle Henry B. Eyring, marking a monumental milestone for the Church and the community.
