Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple

House of the Lord Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple by LDS Temple News

Welcome to the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple, a warm and welcoming place that stands as the 152nd dedicated temple in operation! Located at 1739 Vine St., Philadelphia, this beautiful structure is filled with love and hope, inviting everyone to come and explore its serene spaces.

The journey of the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple began on October 4, 2008, when it was officially announced, sparking excitement in the community. Just a few years later, on September 17, 2011, we celebrated its groundbreaking, led by the wonderful Apostle Henry B. Eyring. This was a day filled with promise, leading us closer to the temple we cherish today!

After much anticipation, the temple welcomed over 140,000 visitors during its open house from August 10 to September 6, 2016. It was amazing to see so many people come together to explore this beautiful space! The dedication ceremony followed on September 18, 2016, once again with Apostle Eyring leading the way, making it a truly memorable occasion.

Set on 1.6 acres, the temple features a stunning exterior made of white granite that perfectly complements the nearby buildings. The granite, sourced from Maine and crafted in Canada, gives the temple a distinctive charm. You can’t miss its elegant design, complete with two beautiful spires topped by a gold-leafed angel, a symbol of hope that stands proudly above the city.

Inside, you’ll find 61,466 square feet of tranquility, inspired by the classic American Georgian period. The interior flooring materials and the gorgeous stone, which was quarried in Egypt and crafted in Italy, really elevate the peaceful atmosphere. Plus, the lovely brass lamps throughout the temple add a warm glow to every room.

For those looking to participate in sacred ordinances, the temple has two instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a cozy baptistry, featuring a beautifully crafted bronze railing with glass panels. There’s also a handy distribution building just north of the temple, making it easy for everyone to benefit from its offerings.

As the first temple built in Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Temple is a special place where faith, community, and love come together. It’s not just a building; it’s a home for many, and we invite you to visit and experience its warmth and beauty for yourself!
