On April 4, 2021, President Russell M. Nelson revealed the plans for the construction of the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple. This announcement resonated deeply within Oregon, home to approximately 154,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church’s roots in the area date back to 1887, when settlers began to arrive, and today there are over 300 congregations throughout the state.

Location and Size

The temple is situated at 3701 Corporate Way in Springfield, Oregon, spanning an impressive 10.5 acres. With a total square footage of 30,000 and a height of 120 feet, it is poised to become a notable feature of the Springfield skyline, located at an elevation of 429 feet.

Architectural Features

The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple boasts a striking architectural design with a single attached central spire. Inside, the temple includes two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all designed to facilitate various activities associated with the sacred nature of the space. The floral arrangements within the temple highlight Dogwood and Laurel flowers, adding to its beauty and symbolism.

Groundbreaking and Dedicatory Events

The groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Elder Valeri V. Cordón on October 29, 2022, making it a significant milestone in the construction timeline. Following this, a media day was held on April 20, 2026, offering a glimpse into the completed work. Invited guests were given tours of the temple on April 21 and 22, ahead of the open house that took place from April 23 to May 9, excluding Sundays.

Notable Dedication

The highlight of the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple will be its dedication, which will occur on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with a rebroadcast planned for 2:00 p.m. Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will officiate this significant event.

A Growing Presence

The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple will be the third such facility in the state, joining those in Medford and Portland. President Nelson expressed the profound importance of temples within the context of the Latter-day Saint faith, stating, “Temples are a vital part of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness.” He emphasized the unique power and strength that emanate from such places, enhancing the lives of those who participate in the associated offerings.

The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple stands to become a cherished addition to the region, marking a new chapter for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Oregon and beyond.
