Located on the banks of the Snake River, the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple at 1000 Memorial Dr, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402, offers a captivating glimpse into history and architectural elegance. This remarkable place has been a significant part of Idaho’s cultural landscape since its inception.

A Brief History

The journey began on March 3, 1937, when the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple was announced. Groundbreaking took place a little over a year later on December 19, 1938, with Elder David Smith leading the ceremony. Fast forward to October 19, 1940, when the site was dedicated by the Prophet David O. McKay, marking a monumental moment in the local faith community’s history.

Architectural Elegance

With an impressive 85,624 square feet of space and a height of 156 feet, the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple stands as a beautiful example of design inspired by the ancient Nephite Temple. The exterior features reinforced concrete with a white cement finish and 16-inch thick walls clad in cast stone. A central spire adorned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue adds a striking touch to the skyline.

Rooms and Features

The Idaho Falls Idaho Temple contains four instruction rooms, seven sealing rooms, and a baptistry, catering to various needs. Its layout is unique, as it is one of only seven Temples where patrons progress through four ordinance rooms before entering the Celestial Room.

In addition to spiritual spaces, renovations have modernized facilities, including an extra exit from the Bride and Groom’s room and a large waiting area for weddings. The last renovation, which took two years, culminated in a rededication on June 4, 2017, by Apostle Henry B. Eyring.

Renovation and Landscaping

The Temple has undergone significant changes throughout its life. Originally, in the 1960s, it featured three reflection ponds filled with small fish and water lilies. These were transformed into flowerbeds in the landscaping renovation of 2011, which introduced a serene waterfall feature, further enhancing the beauty of the grounds.
