Announced by Prophet Thomas S. Monson on October 2, 2010, the temple underwent groundbreaking and site dedication on September 29, 2012, led by Elder Donald L. Hallstrom. The public open house from July 17 to August 8, 2015, drew an impressive attendance of 90,000 individuals. Shortly thereafter, on August 23, 2015, the Temple was dedicated by Apostle Henry B. Eyring. Spanning 18.11 acres, the Indianapolis Indiana Temple features a single-story design with an area of 34,000 square feet and reaches a height of 106.4 feet.

The Temple’s exterior is crafted from Aero Cream limestone, quarried in Myra, Turkey, adding to its exquisite aesthetic. The architectural design includes a single attached end spire crowned with a gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, harmonizing elegance with spiritual significance.

- Bronze Doors: The Temple’s exterior doors feature a design incorporating a circle within a square, a nod to the original street and block platting of Indianapolis in 1821.
