The story of the Las Vegas Nevada Temple began on April 7, 1984, when it was announced to the public by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. Following this announcement, the community eagerly anticipated the groundbreaking and site dedication, which took place on November 30, 1985, led by an Apostle of the faith.
A public open house ran from November 16, 1989, to December 9, 1989, attracting an impressive total of 297,480 attendees. The dedication occurred from December 16 to December 18, 1989, also led by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, who remarked, “This Temple is a gift to the Lord.” The Las Vegas Nevada Temple occupies 10.3 acres, showcasing a beautifully designed exterior of white precast stone alongside copper roofing and detailing.
Architectural Features
The Temple is a three-level facility, encompassing a total of 80,350 square feet and reaching a height of 137 feet. The remarkable six spires are capped with an angel Moroni statue that faces east, symbolically heralding the anticipation of Christ’s return. The exquisite exterior art glass features geometric, Art Deco-inspired patterns that harmonize with the surrounding desert scenery.
A spectacular focal point within the Temple is the Celestial Room, renowned for its breathtaking floor-to-ceiling windows that allow natural light to stream in, casting miniature rainbows around the space.
