Grant dedicated the site, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey.
The temple’s groundbreaking happened on April 25, 1922, also under the watchful eye of Heber J. Grant. Fast forward to 1927, and we witnessed the grand dedication from October 23 to 26. The history didn’t stop there! In 1975, it was rededicated by Spencer W. Kimball, and again, after an open house from October 16 to November 20, 2021, it was rededicated by Dallin H. Oaks on December 12, 2021. What a journey!
Let’s talk about its stunning architecture! The Mesa Arizona Temple features a striking flat roof embellished with sculpted friezes. Inside, you can find four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and one baptistery, all beautifully laid out across 75,000 square feet. Towering at 53 feet and sitting at an elevation of 1,240 feet, this temple is a sight to behold! It rests on 20 acres of manicured grounds, where visitors can experience the beauty of a cactus garden and large reflection pools.
Nestled just east of the original Mesa Townsite, settled by the early pioneers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, the temple anchors a charming historic district that feels like stepping back in time. Each Easter, the temple grounds come alive with “Jesus the Christ,” the world’s largest annual outdoor Easter pageant, drawing in thousands.
