Announcing the Layton Utah Temple: A Landmark of Faith
We are excited to announce the construction of the Layton Utah Temple, a project that will significantly enhance our community and spiritual lives. This announcement was made by President Russell M. Nelson during the Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference on April 1, 2018. We are ready to witness the transformative power of this new temple.
Envision the Layton Utah Temple with its striking twin spires and a prominent gold-leafed angel Moroni statue that will surely command attention. With an expansive area of 93,539 square feet, this temple will include four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a stunning baptistry, all designed for meaningful spiritual experiences. Standing tall at 215 feet and at an elevation of 4,468 feet, this magnificent structure will be prominently located on an 11.8-acre pasture at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane in Layton.
This temple will be the twenty-second temple built in Utah and the second in Davis County, following the esteemed Bountiful Utah Temple. The official exterior rendering, unveiled on October 8, 2019, showcased the architectural splendor that this temple will contribute to our region.
During the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, articulated the impact of this project, stating, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area and around the world.” This statement underscores the profound significance of this temple. Furthermore, Elder Randy D. Funk offered a dedicatory prayer, envisioning this temple as “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.”
Prepare for a significant milestone! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Two sessions will be broadcast live at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., ensuring full participation from congregations across the temple district. Leading up to the dedication, we will open the temple for a public open house from April 19 through June 1, 2024 (excluding Sundays), providing everyone the opportunity to experience this sacred space. A media day will occur on April 15, allowing select guests to tour the temple in advance.
The Layton Utah Temple is not merely a structure; it is poised to become a vital spiritual center in our community. We eagerly anticipate its opening and the countless blessings it will bring, reinforcing faith and unity among all who enter its doors. Prepare to embrace this incredible addition to our lives and community—its time is swiftly approaching!
