Announcing the Remarkable Layton Utah Temple!

We are thrilled to announce an exciting development that will foster growth and faith in our community: the Layton Utah Temple! President Russell M. Nelson revealed this significant news during the Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, marking a new chapter for Latter-day Saints in our area. First announced on April 1, 2018, this temple promises to be a powerful addition to our community.

Visualize the stunning Layton Utah Temple, featuring two elegant spires crowned with a magnificent gold-leafed angel Moroni statue. This impressive structure will encompass 93,539 square feet and will include four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a beautiful baptistry—all designed to facilitate profound spiritual experiences. Standing tall at 215 feet and resting at an elevation of 4,468 feet, the temple will command attention from its prominent location on an 11.8-acre site at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane in Layton.

Significantly, the Layton Utah Temple is the twenty-second temple in Utah and the second in Davis County, following the esteemed Bountiful Utah Temple. The excitement was palpable when the official exterior rendering was revealed on October 8, 2019, giving our community a glimpse of the awe-inspiring design we can expect.

During the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, expressed gratitude and pride in this momentous occasion. He declared, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area and around the world.” This declaration reflects the resilient spirit of our faith. Elder Randy D. Funk offered a powerful dedicatory prayer, asking that this temple be “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all.”

Mark your calendars—this is an event you won’t want to miss! Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside over the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Two broadcast sessions will take place at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., ensuring that all congregations in the temple district can participate in this historic occasion. Leading up to this celebration, a public open house will be held from April 19 through June 1, 2024, excluding Sundays, so that everyone can experience the beauty of the temple firsthand. Additionally, a media day on April 15 will offer select guests an exclusive preview.

The Layton Utah Temple represents more than just a physical structure; it stands as a testament to our collective faith and commitment to serve our community. We are confident that this temple will greatly enrich the spiritual lives of all who visit and serve as a source of light, inspiration, and blessing for Layton and its surrounding areas. Let’s prepare to embrace this remarkable addition to our community with open hearts and unwavering faith!
