Since the renovation project began in late 2019, this sacred site has been undergoing a comprehensive transformation—blending historic preservation with cutting-edge safety and modern amenities. Imagine a temple that stands resilient against nature’s fiercest forces. Thanks to innovative seismic and structural enhancements, that vision is now a reality:
- Base Isolation System: Nearly 100 advanced base isolators have been installed beneath the foundation, allowing the entire structure to gently sway up to five feet in any direction during an earthquake—ensuring safety without sacrificing beauty.
- Vertical Coring: 46 deep holes (approximately 150 feet each) have been drilled through the granite walls to house powerful post-tensioning cables, anchoring the spires securely to a reinforced foundation.
- Foundation Reinforcement: Using a high-tech “jack and bore” process, reinforced steel tubes filled with concrete have been inserted beneath the existing footings, providing unmatched stability.
- Steel Roof Trusses: Heavy-duty steel trusses have been added to strengthen the connection between the north and south walls, fortifying the temple’s majestic silhouette for generations to come.
