On April 4, 2021, excitement filled the air during the 191st Annual General Conference when President Russell M. Nelson announced plans to build the Burley Idaho Temple. This will be the seventh temple in Idaho, a state that proudly hosts more than 460,000 members of the faith!
The journey took a significant step forward on June 4, 2022, when Elder Brent H. Nielson, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy and a local from Burley, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony. Sharing his heartfelt connection to the area, he said, “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life.” His words truly reflect the spirit of community and joy surrounding this project.
When completed, the Burley Idaho Temple will span an impressive 38,600 square feet on a lovely 10.1-acre site at 40 South and 150 East. As Elder Nielson prayed during the ceremony, “As we turn this soil, we pray for an eternal harvest as a house of the Lord, a holy temple, rises out of the ground in this place.” It’s a prayer that underscores the hope and faith invested in this new temple.
Mark your calendars! A public open house will take place from November 6 to November 22, 2025, excluding Sundays. This will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to explore the temple before it officially opens. The dedication is scheduled for January 11, 2026, and it will be broadcast to congregations throughout the temple district so that many can join in this special moment.
Nestled in Idaho’s Magic Valley—famous for its picturesque potato and sugar beet fields—the temple’s design resonates with the area’s agricultural charm. You’ll find beautiful motifs inspired by local flora, such as art glass patterns that showcase potato blossoms, and a calming color palette that mirrors the stunning landscapes around us.
Standing tall at 172 feet, the Burley Idaho Temple features a robust steel frame clad in elegant Bianco Sarda granite, making it a beautiful landmark in the community. Surrounding the property is a black Ameristar Montage Plus Majestic fence, adding both security and style.
Inside, the temple radiates warmth and tranquility. The general areas will be adorned with soft gold broadloom carpeting, while the celestial and sealing rooms feature creamy white carpet that enhances the sacred atmosphere. The temple will showcase exquisite Botticino Classico marble, combined with accents of Jerusalem Gold, Verde Guatemala, and yellow-gold stones from Italy. Elegant decorative light fixtures made with bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster will light up spaces like the brides’ room and the celestial room, creating a serene glow.
Throughout the interior, you’ll find the rich beauty of quarter-sawn sapele wood and stunning stained glass windows, which beautifully reflect the potato bloom, tying the temple to the region’s agricultural heritage. The doors inside are made of sapele with bronze hardware, while the exterior doors feature a lovely potato blossom design finished in rubbed bronze.
