Announcing the Layton Utah Temple: A Bold New Chapter!
We’re thrilled to share groundbreaking news! During the Sunday Afternoon Session of the 188th Annual General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson confidently announced the construction of the Layton Utah Temple—a monumental addition that will greatly enrich our community. First unveiled on April 1, 2018, this temple is set to become a cornerstone of faith for all of us.
Envision the stunning Layton Utah Temple, featuring two magnificent end spires capped with a gleaming gold-leafed angel Moroni statue. Spread over an impressive 93,539 square feet, this temple will include four instruction rooms, six sealing rooms, and a beautiful baptistry, designed to provide profound spiritual experiences. Towering at 215 feet and sitting at an elevation of 4,468 feet, this remarkable building will stand proudly on an 11.8-acre site at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane in Layton.
As the twenty-second temple built in Utah and the second in Davis County—following the esteemed Bountiful Utah Temple—the Layton Utah Temple signifies a historic milestone we are excited to celebrate. The unveiling of the official exterior rendering on October 8, 2019, ignited enthusiasm throughout our community, showcasing the beauty that awaits us.
At the groundbreaking ceremony on May 23, 2020, Elder Craig C. Christensen, president of the Utah Area, expressed our collective gratitude, declaring, “We are very grateful to join you from this impressive and beautiful site. Like every temple, it is the product of the faith of Latter-day Saints who live in this area and around the world.” His words encapsulate our unwavering faith in a brighter future. Elder Randy D. Funk’s dedicatory prayer, which called for this temple to be “a beacon of light for the entire community and a blessing for all,” reinforces our confident expectation of the blessings to come.
Mark your calendars! On Sunday, June 16, 2024, Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will lead the dedication of the Layton Utah Temple. The two sessions will be broadcast live at 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., engaging everyone in our temple district to join in this historic celebration. Before the dedication, we are proud to offer a public open house from April 19 through June 1, 2024 (excluding Sundays), providing everyone the opportunity to experience the temple firsthand. Additionally, on April 15, we will host a media day, inviting special guests to preview the temple ahead of its public opening!
The Layton Utah Temple is not just a building; it’s a powerful symbol of hope, unity, and faith for our community. We stand ready to embrace the blessings it will bring to Layton and beyond, embarking on this exciting journey together!
