On November 21, 2020, the groundbreaking and site dedication took place under the guidance of Art Rascon. This event marked the beginning of what would soon be a transformative place in the southern Texas landscape. The dedication of the site was underscored by Rascon’s heartfelt prayer, where he acknowledged the efforts of countless individuals who had worked diligently in their faith.
Architectural Features and Design
Exterior Details
The architectural design features beige precast concrete panels fabricated by Gate Precast of Hillsboro, Texas. The single-story building spans an impressive 27,897 square feet, topped with a central tower that rises to a height of 108 feet, positioned at an elevation of 107 feet.
Interior Elements
Inside, the temple reflects elegance and warmth. Soft-gold broadloom carpet graces the general areas and instruction rooms, while wall-to-wall wool rugs enhance the celestial and sealing rooms. Vibrant area rugs in blues, golds, and greens create a welcoming atmosphere throughout the interior.
Facilities
The McAllen Texas Temple is equipped with two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry, catering to various needs. Alongside the temple, a meetinghouse exceeding 19,000 square feet is being constructed on-site. This meetinghouse will feature accommodations for three wards, a stake suite, mission offices, and a distribution center.
Public Open House and Dedication
The public open house for the McAllen Texas Temple is scheduled from August 25 to September 9, 2023. Following this, the temple dedication is set for October 8, 2023, a moment that will be officiated by the Apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf, marking the culmination of years of anticipation.
