In a remarkable turn of events, on June 13, 2009, during the public open house, a lightning bolt struck the gold leafed angel Moroni statue atop the temple, leaving singed marks on its trumpet, arm, and face. Thankfully, a new statue was installed on August 11, just ten days prior to the dedicatory services, restoring the angel’s majestic presence.
