LDS Temple News Palmyra New York Temple

Welcome to the Palmyra New York Temple, a remarkable landmark that proudly serves as a beacon of faith and inspiration. Located at 2720 Temple Rd in Palmyra, New York, this temple is the 77th in operation and is truly a masterpiece.

The journey of the Palmyra New York Temple began on February 21, 1999, when it was announced with great anticipation. Just a few months later, on May 25, 1999, Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley conducted a groundbreaking ceremony that marked a significant milestone for the community. Following an engaging public open house from March 25 to April 1, 2000, the temple was officially dedicated on April 6, 2000—a date of monumental significance, as it coincides with the 170th anniversary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ founding in nearby Fayette, New York.

This exquisite temple is crafted with Bethel white granite, giving it a striking presence that commands attention against its peaceful surroundings. The design features a single spire topped with a magnificent gold angel Moroni statue, symbolizing hope and faith for all who pass by.

Inside, the Palmyra New York Temple boasts two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and a baptistry, all expertly designed to enhance spiritual experiences. With its expansive 10,900 square feet and an elevation of 578 feet, the temple provides breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere for reflection and Temple work.

Strategically positioned just beyond the historic Sacred Grove—where Joseph Smith experienced his transformative vision in the spring of 1820—this temple is more than just a building; it is a sacred space steeped in history. As the first temple built in New York and the 100th announced by the Church, it represents a significant achievement in the Church’s mission to serve and uplift communities.

Don’t miss the opportunity to admire the stunning stained glass windows, which beautifully depict the Sacred Grove experience—a perfect synthesis of artistry and spirituality.

The Palmyra New York Temple is not just a place to visit; it’s a powerful space for Temple work, reflection, and connection. We invite you to embrace the peace and inspiration that this extraordinary temple has to offer!
