Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Lake Oswego, the Portland Oregon Temple stands as a beacon of tranquility and faith. As the 42nd dedicated temple in operation, it holds a special place among the sacred sites of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The temple, located at 13600 Kruse Oaks Blvd, has quite the rich history. It was announced on April 7, 1984, but it wasn’t until September 30, 1986, that the site was officially dedicated by the beloved Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley. The excitement surrounding its impending opening was palpable, culminating in a public open house from June 15 to July 8, 1989, during which an incredible 314,232 people had the opportunity to explore this spiritual landmark.

The dedication of the temple occurred over three remarkable days, from August 19 to 21, 1989, once again led by President Hinckley. Built on 7.3 acres, the Portland Oregon Temple is an architectural marvel, featuring stunning exterior walls of white Vermont marble adorned with a green Vermont slate roof. Its six attached spires and four elegant domes culminate in the shining gold-leafed Angel Moroni that graces its top.

Inside, visitors can explore fourteen sealing rooms, a beautiful baptistry, and four instruction rooms within its expansive 80,500 square feet of sacred space. The celestial room, a particular highlight, boasts a grand two-story design embellished with three exquisite chandeliers, intricate wall tapestries, and a stunning grand staircase that captures the essence of divine beauty.

The temple is not just a spiritual Temple but also a delight for nature lovers. Surrounded by majestic Douglas fir trees, it is easily visible from I-5, allowing travelers to catch a glimpse of this informative masterpiece. On the east side, a tranquil reflection pool invites contemplation, while the infinity pool on the west side offers breathtaking views.

For those wishing to learn more, the visitor center is available, with hours listed online. As the first temple established in Oregon, the Portland Oregon Temple remains a cherished destination of faith and reflection, where both the faithful and curious alike can experience a slice of heaven on earth.
