Discovering the Boston Massachusetts Temple

Nestled amidst the serene woodlands of Belmont, Massachusetts, the Boston Massachusetts Temple is a stunning addition to the architectural landscape, marking a significant milestone as the 100th temple dedicated in operation.

A Brief History

The journey of the Boston Massachusetts Temple began with its announcement on September 30, 1995. Following two years of anticipation, the groundbreaking took place on June 13, 1997, with Apostle Richard G. Scott leading the site dedication. The temple opened its doors to the public for a warm reception from August 29 to September 23, 2000, giving visitors a glimpse into its remarkable design and purpose.

On October 1, 2000, the temple was formally dedicated by Prophet Gordon B. Hinckley, marking a significant moment for many.

The Location

Set on an impressive 8 acres atop a wooded granite hillside, this space is strategically positioned for visibility along the Concord Turnpike. Standing at a height of 139 feet, the temple offers a striking sight against the backdrop of Belmont’s natural beauty, with an elevation of 331 feet enhancing its prominence in the region.

Architectural Features

Adorned with Olympia white granite, the temple showcases a classic design highlighted by a single attached spire. This spire features a magnificent gold-leafed Angel Moroni statue, which was added on September 21, 2011, further enhancing the temple’s aesthetic appeal.

Inside, the Boston Massachusetts Temple is spacious and thoughtfully designed, encompassing 69,900 square feet. It includes four instruction rooms, four sealing rooms, and a single baptistry, providing ample space for various ceremonies and services.

Additional Amenities

In addition to the temple itself, the site includes a meeting house located in the same parking area, enhancing accessibility for visitors and attendees.

A New England First

This temple holds a special place in history as the very first temple established in New England. It represents a long-awaited addition to the region, offering a space for individuals and families engaged in spiritual pursuits.
