Nestled in the foothills of Bountiful, Utah, the Bountiful Utah Temple stands as the 47th dedicated Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Located at 640 S Bountiful Blvd, this remarkable place serves as a significant site for many.
A Brief History
The announcement of the Bountiful Utah Temple was made public on February 2, 1990. The excitement built over the years leading up to the groundbreaking and site dedication on May 2, 1992. This momentous day attracted an impressive 7,500 attendees, with an additional 2,500 participating remotely.
After more than two years of anticipation, the public open house began on November 4, 1994, and ran until December 17, 1994. During this time, an astonishing 870,361 individuals explored the Temple, supported by an incredible 45,000 volunteers who aided in making the event a success.
Dedication and Design
The dedication of the Bountiful Utah Temple occurred from January 8 through January 14, 1995, led by Prophet Howard W. Hunter. Notably, this addition marked only his second dedication as Prophet, following the Orlando Florida Temple. The dedication was a massive event, with 28 sessions attended by 201,655 individuals.
Occupying a generous nine acres, this Temple features a striking exterior finished in Bethel white granite and boasts a height of 176 feet. A gold-leafed painted statue of Angel Moroni crowns the single attached central spire, providing a stunning visual from many points in the city and along the I-15 freeway.
Architectural Features
With an impressive 104,000 square feet of space, the interior is thoughtfully designed, featuring four instruction rooms, eight sealing rooms, and a baptistry. The floor plan of the Bountiful Utah Temple is similar to that of the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple, though each site offers its own unique landscape.

In a notable incident, the Angel Moroni statue was struck by lightning on May 22, 2016. The statue was replaced shortly thereafter, on June 1, 2016. Interestingly, this version of Angel Moroni was initially intended for the Meridian Idaho Temple before finding its home at the Bountiful Utah Temple.
