A Brief Timeline
The journey of the Bountiful Utah Temple began with its announcement on February 2, 1990. Following that, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 2, 1992, led by the Prophet Ezra Taft Benson, marking a pivotal moment attended by 7,500 individuals on-site and an additional 2,500 participating remotely.
After years of anticipation, the Temple opened its doors to the public during a grand open house from November 4 to December 17, 1994. An impressive 870,361 guests visited, supported by a remarkable effort of 45,000 volunteers who contributed their time to make the event a success.
The official dedication followed from January 8 to January 14, 1995, led by the Prophet Howard W. Hunter. During his limited time as Prophet, he presided over the dedication of only one additional Temple—the Orlando Florida Temple. In a historic moment, the Bountiful Utah Temple required 28 dedicatory sessions, with a total of 201,655 individuals participating in the dedication.
