A Historical Background
The announcement of the Burley Idaho Temple was made by Prophet Russell M. Nelson on April 4, 2021, during the 191st General Conference. At the time of this announcement, Idaho had over 460,000 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and 1,200 congregations. The history of early pioneers settling in Idaho dates back to 1855, setting the stage for a rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
The Groundbreaking
The groundbreaking and site dedication of the Burley Idaho Temple occurred on June 4, 2022. Brent H. Nielsen led this significant event, reflecting on the abundance life has to offer in the beautiful Magic Valley. He expressed hopes for bountiful blessings as the Temple rose upon the dedicated ground.
Opening and Dedication
A public open house for the Burley Idaho Temple was held from November 6, 2025, through November 22, 2025. This provided an opportunity for the community to experience the beauty and significance of the Temple before its dedication on January 11, 2026, by Prophet Dallin H. Oaks.
Architectural Design
Built on 10.12 acres, the Burley Idaho Temple showcases stunning Bianco Sarda granite as its exterior finish. It features a single attached end spire, but notably, there is no gold-leafed Angel Moroni Statue.
Interior Features
The interior of the Burley Idaho Temple spans a total of 45,300 square feet and reaches a height of 172 feet, sitting at an elevation of 4,188 feet. The design incorporates art glass patterns that highlight the blossoms and leaves of the potato plant, a tribute to the local agricultural heritage. A harmonious color palette of blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green echoes the landscapes of nearby farms and open skies.
Elegant Finishes
Soft gold broadloom carpets are used throughout the general areas, with creamy white carpets gracing the celestial and sealing rooms. Decorative light fixtures made from a balanced mix of bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster illuminate key spaces, including the brides’ room, celestial room, and sealing rooms, creating an atmosphere of sacred elegance.
Unique Woodwork
Quarter-sawn sapele wood is employed extensively throughout the Temple’s interior. The interior doors, crafted from sapele with bronze hardware, feature an intricate potato blossom design finished in rubbed bronze, adding a unique touch of local flavor to the overall aesthetic.
