On April 4, 2021, President Russell M. Nelson shared some exciting news during the 191st Annual General Conference: plans were officially announced to build the Burley Idaho Temple, which will become the seventh temple in Idaho! With over 460,000 members in the state, this new temple is a wonderful addition to the faith community.
Fast forward to June 4, 2022, when Elder Brent H. Nielson, who has strong ties to the area as a Burley native, led the groundbreaking ceremony. In his heartfelt speech, he reflected on his childhood and the abundance of blessings in the beautiful Magic Valley, saying, “It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to…love and enjoy life.” His words truly resonate with the spirit of the community.
The Burley Idaho Temple will span an impressive 38,600 square feet on a lovely 10.1-acre site at 40 South and 150 East. Elder Nielson’s dedicatory prayer captured the hopeful essence of this project: “As we turn this soil, we pray for an eternal harvest as a house of the Lord, a holy temple, rises out of the ground in this place.”
Mark your calendars! The public will be invited to explore the temple during an open house from November 6 to November 22, 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in the community to learn more about this sacred space before its dedication on January 11, 2026, which will also be broadcast to congregations in the temple district.
The design of the temple reflects the beauty of Idaho’s Magic Valley, known for its lush agricultural lands, particularly the beloved sugar beet and potato farms. Inside the temple, you’ll find lovely motifs inspired by nature, including art glass patterns that celebrate the potato plant’s blossoms and leaves. The color palette of soft blues, golds, and earthy tones echoes the stunning landscapes around us.
Standing tall at 172 feet, the temple is built with a sturdy steel frame wrapped in elegant Bianco Sarda granite, making it an eye-catching landmark for all who pass by. The property is beautifully enclosed by a stylish black Ameristar Montage Plus Majestic fence, combining safety with aesthetic appeal.
Step inside, and you’ll notice the serene atmosphere created by soft gold carpets in general areas and creamy white carpets in the celestial and sealing rooms. The interior features a stunning Botticino Classico marble complemented by intricate accents in Jerusalem Gold and Verde Guatemala stones, all of which were expertly sourced from Italy. Unique decorative light fixtures blend bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster, illuminating sacred spaces like the brides’ room and celestial room with a warm and inviting glow.
Stylish quarter-sawn sapele wood is found throughout the temple, adding a touch of elegance to the interior. The stained glass windows, showcasing patterns inspired by the potato blossom, serve as a beautiful tribute to the local agricultural heritage. The interior doors are crafted from sapele with bronze hardware, while the exterior doors are adorned with a charming potato blossom design in a rubbed bronze finish.
