The Burley Idaho Temple: A Testament of Faith and Heritage

The Burley Idaho Temple stands as the 212th dedicated Temple in operation, embodying both spiritual significance and cultural heritage. Located at 40 S 150 E, Burley, Idaho 83318, this Temple is a beautiful addition to the landscape of Idaho and a source of inspiration for its residents.

A Journey from Announcement to Dedication

The Burley Idaho Temple’s story began on April 4, 2021, when the Prophet Russell M. Nelson announced its construction during the 191st General Conference. At that time, Idaho was home to over 460,000 Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and 1,200 congregations. The area has a rich history, with early pioneers settling in Idaho in 1855.

The groundbreaking and site dedication for the Temple took place on June 4, 2022. Brent H. Nielsen, who led the ceremony, spoke about the personal significance of the land, emphasizing the abundance of blessings that the Magic Valley offers. He connected the act of turning soil to the promise of future growth, stating, “As we turn this soil, we pray for an eternal harvest as a house of the Lord rises out of the ground in this place.”

Key Dates to Remember

  • Public Open House: November 6 – November 22, 2025
  • Dedication: January 11, 2026

Architectural Details and Aesthetic Choices

Built on 10.12 acres, the Burley Idaho Temple spans a total of 45,300 square feet and reaches a height of 172 feet, sitting at an elevation of 4,188 feet. The exterior is adorned with Bianco Sarda granite, creating a stunning appearance.

Inside, the Temple features four instruction rooms, three sealing rooms, and one baptistry. The design incorporates elements from the local environment, with art glass patterns that highlight the blossoms and leaves of the potato plant. These patterns tie the Temple closely to the region’s agricultural heritage, beautifully echoed in the interior’s color palette of blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green.

Luxurious Interior Features

Soft gold broadloom carpets grace the general areas, while creamy white carpets are featured in celestial and sealing rooms. The brides’ room also includes specially chosen area rugs.

Decorative light fixtures play an essential role in the visual ambiance of the Temple. Combining bronze, crystal, and faux alabaster elements, these fixtures illuminate the brides’ room, celestial room, and sealing rooms, adding a touch of sacred elegance. Crystal chandeliers, along with antique brass finishes, contribute to the overall aesthetic.

Material Choices and Thematic Elements

The interior showcases quarter-sawn sapele wood throughout, contributing warmth and sophistication. The doors are also crafted from sapele, equipped with bronze hardware featuring a potato blossom design with a rubbed bronze finish. This attention to detail reflects the significant agricultural heritage of the Magic Valley.

The Seventh Temple in Idaho

The Burley Idaho Temple stands as the seventh Temple built in Idaho, joining a lineage that includes the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple (1945), Boise Idaho Temple (1984), Rexburg Idaho Temple (2008), Twin Falls Idaho Temple (2008), Meridian Idaho Temple (2017), and Pocatello Idaho Temple (2021).

With its comprehensive blend of spiritual purpose and cultural homage, the Burley Idaho Temple represents a significant chapter in the ongoing story of faith in Idaho. Whether through its design, dedication, or the community it intends to serve, the Temple is set to become a cherished part of the fabric of Idaho life for generations to come.
